Palm Beach County, FL – On the evening of Wednesday, September 25, 2024, the Urban League of Palm Beach County, in collaboration with WPTV News Channel 5, the League of Women Voters Palm Beach, and When We All Vote, hosted a public General Election Candidates Forum at the Duncan Theater on Palm Beach State College’s, Lake Worth Beach campus. The forum, moderated by WPTV Anchor, Michael Williams, brought together candidates running for various races including the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO): Michael Gauger (REP); County Commissioners for District 3: Joel Flores (DEM); District 5: Maria Sachs (DEM), Incumbent, and John Fischer (REP); District 7: Bobby Powell (DEM), and Leonard Serratore (REP); State Attorney: Alexia Cox (DEM), and Samuel Stern (REP); and Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections: Wendy Link (DEM), Incumbent, and Jeff Buongiorno (REP).
Throughout the evening, candidates addressed a range of important topics, including community policing, affordable housing, mental health, and the rising cost of living in Florida. The event offered the audience and viewers valuable insights into the candidates’ plans and priorities while emphasizing the importance of voter registration and civic engagement.
The forum was live streamed on WPTV and well attended, with over 100 guests in attendance. Audience members participated in a Q&A session, during which candidates explored concerns such as over-development and infrastructure needs, reflecting some of the most pressing issues facing Palm Beach County residents.
