Passing of ULPBC Board President Elect Alfred “Al” Malefatto

Alfred Malefatto

We are saddened to report the death of Alfred “Al” Malefatto, President of Urban League of Palm Beach County’s Board of Directors.

Al, beloved husband, father, uncle, cousin, dear friend, respected attorney and community leader passed away unexpectedly on September 21.

Al was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. He grew up in the Marlboro Housing Projects in
Gravesend, and attended Bishop Ford High School.

Al earned his bachelor’s degree from New York University in 1975. He earned his Juris Doctor at
University of Florida Levin College of Law in 1979, where he met his wife and fellow attorney Moria Rozenson.

Al remained a Florida resident, raising his family and practicing law in Palm Beach County for the last 40 years.

Al was a partner at Lewis, Longman & Walker, P.A. He specialized in environmental, land use, and administrative law, born of his passion for environmental preservation. He held leadership
positions in numerous professional organizations including the Environmental and Land Use Law Section of the Florida Bar, the Central Palm Beach County and Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and the Forum Club of the Palm Beaches.

Al was very proud of his work and giving back to the community. He poured his gratitude and love of humanity into service and philanthropy for the many causes he supported. He was Chair-Elect of the board of the Urban League of Palm Beach County, and served on the board of the Friends of Gale Academy of Environmental Science and Technology at Forest Hill High School. He was especially passionate about fostering the next generation of leaders.

Outside of his professional and community service, Al was a dedicated sports fan, following the Florida Gators through thick and thin. He loved music, especially classic rock and the blues; Al was proud to have seen Bruce Springsteen in concert seventeen times.

More than anything, Al was a family man and friend to everyone he met. He moved through life with an aura of warmth, gratitude, and generosity.

Al is the son of Frank and Ann Malefatto. He is survived by his loving wife Moria; his children, Josie Schrader-Malefatto (Kyrstan) and Anna Malefatto; his sisters Diane Fortunato and Janet Malefatto Rodriguez (James), and brother Frank Malefatto (Ilene); and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his large extended family and dear friends across the country.

The family requests donations to be made in Al’s honor to the Urban League of Palm Beach County and the Friends of Gale Academy of Environmental Science and Technology at Forest Hill High School.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 28, 2023 at:
