The Bridge the Gap: Senior Digital Literacy class promotes computer and internet literacy through an intergenerational program. The US Department of Commerce reports that people over 65 have the lowest rate of Internet use (42%) of any population and low income minority seniors have an even lower rate. This program funded by Comcast bridges the digital divide by educating and engaging seniors who may not have the knowledge or access to digital technology learn how to use it and apply their new-found skills to their everyday life. The program provides many seniors with their first computer training and access to our Comcast Digital Learning Lab. Increased computer proficiency among this target group will help them to utilize the internet for accessing healthcare information, paying bills online, connecting to friends and family through email, and staying connected in their community. The class is offered for 90 minutes once a week for 8 weeks.
